Why is it encouraged to have a vehicle to sign-up with miles2share?

  1. To encourage members to both drive and ride
  2. If you drive, you earn and if you ride, you spend. By having own vehicle, you can really take advantage of sharing and savings
  3. To ensure you always have your own car as back-up in case of a cancelation

Is ALL my information publicly visible?

Initially other users can only see your name, and overlapping % & distance with your route. Once you decide to share a ride with another member after going through the ‘meet & confirm’ process, other members will have access to your phone number, origin and destination addresses.

What is a route? Can I set-up more than one route?

Route consists of a starting and ending address. For example ‘Home to College’ or ‘Home to a stadium’ or ‘one city to another’. Yes, a member can setup up multiple routes.

What does ‘overlap miles’ and ‘extra drive’ mean?

Overlap Miles: number of miles (or km) of a route common to another user Extra Drive: number of additional miles (or km) a user needs to drive to pick up and drop off a rider. You should look to share rides with least the extra drive and maximum overlap matches.

Finding members to share, scheduling and sharing

What is the purpose of a circle? How do you create a circle based on a route?

Circle represents a group of users with whom you can share rides. miles2share suggests matches based on overlapping route. You can invite them to share rides using the 'Meet and Confirm' process and add them to your circle to share ride

How does adding a member to my circle work (meet and confirm process)?

Here are steps to add a member on your circle:

  1. From the recommended matches, using the overlap % and least extra drive, pick a member to invite to share ride. By inviting another member you will initiate 'Meet and Confirm' process. An invite will be sent to the other member that you are interested in sharing ride. Your status will show that you have 'sent invite' and other member status will be ‘received invite'.
  2. You can exchange email via miles2share app and may decide to meet at public place to decide if you would like share ride with another member.
  3. After meeting a member if you decide to share rides, please go ahead and ‘confirm’. Once you confirm, your status will change to 'waiting for confirmation' from 'sent invite'.
  4. After meeting a member if you decide to share rides, please go ahead and ‘confirm’. Once you confirm, your status will change to 'waiting for confirmation' from 'sent invite'.
  5. . If you confirm but other user has not confirmed yet, status will change to 'waiting for response'.
  6. Once both members confirm, both will have access to each other origin and destination addresses and phone # as well as the schedule.
  7. If you do not want to share ride with member you can decline and this member will never show up as a match.

How do I screen member matches before ‘adding to my circle’?

Always use your discretion before meeting in person. Consider using emails and phone conversations to screen matches and when comfortable schedule a meeting in public places e.g. book store, cafes, food court of a local mall etc. before deciding to share rides. You could also consider seeing their driver’s license as an additional precaution.

How do I pick the best match to share rides with?

Numerically best match is one with the least extra drive and maximum route overlap. But your personal screening of matches may trump the numbers.

What is the definition of ‘perfect overlap’, ‘superset’ and ‘subset’ routes?

Perfect Overlap: Members’ routes are perfectly aligned and any one of them can be a driver or rider. Superset and Subset: : Algorithm may find that two members’ route has good overlap but one member route is longer than other member route. In this case member with longer route will be ‘superset’ and member with shorter route will be ‘subset’. The member with shorter route can only be a rider.

What if I do not see any matches to create a circle?

This may be because there is no other user taking the same route. Please note that as new members sign up and if there is a match, we will notify you.

How do I schedule rides?

Set up your schedule with leaving and returning time, driving preferences and feel free to schedule a ride if you see other member is open for the same time and day

What if I want to use miles2share service to find ride sharing matches but do not want to use scheduling?

Yes, you can use miles2share to find ride sharing matches without using scheduling

Scheduling ride is a premium feature which

  1. Enables you to setup your schedule online
  2. Provides you flexibility to share rides with different members on different days and time
  3. You do not need to worry about negotiating cost per trip or who will be driving when because miles2share tracking of miles/km will take care of this

Can I cancel a scheduled ride, if yes, how?

You can simply go to your schedule or shared rides and cancel the dates you do not want share ride. We will appreciate if you can please call other member and notify cancellation of shared rides. We advise not to cancel a 'scheduled ride’ within 2 hours of scheduled time as this may adversely affect your rating and cause unnecessary inconvenience to your ride sharing partner.

What if the ‘driver’ for a route does not show up or is running late?

It is possible that due to some unforeseen reason a user may not be able to come. Please consider the following options:

  1. Attempt to contact the person letting them know that you plan to use your own vehicle to get to your destination.
  2. Cancel this ride.

How does scheduling time work?

Set up your leaving and returning time for one day or multiple days you want to share ride or tap on members on your circle who has already setup its schedule and open to share.

Can I share different legs of the trip with different members?

Yes, you can pick different users for outbound and inbound trip.

What is the service charge I pay to miles2share?

Finding a ride sharing match and creating ride sharing circle is completely free at miles2share but if you use the premium function of scheduling and earn miles (or km), you pay small surcharge Please see ‘Fees and Commission Schedule’ for details

How does the Payment Processing work?

Member sharing ride as a rider pay based on distance of the shared ride and specified rate per ‘Fees and Commission Schedule’ when rider gets into the vehicle to share ride. miles2share is using Stripe payment gateway for the financial transactions for riders to pay and payout to drivers in USA and RazorPay payment gateway for riders to pay and payout to drivers in India.
Stripe and RazorPay are the most secure and best payment processing platform in the market handling millions of transactions.
Amount paid by the rider after netting off miles2share commission per ‘Fees and Commission Schedule’ transferred to driver account once a week

How do I track my savings?

You can model your savings based on tool available on the home page. Once you set up an account you should be able to see details of earned, spent for each shared ride and overall savings

What precautions does miles2share take to ensure member safety?

Our goal is to build a safe and growing ridesharing community, but we rely solely on your discretion and communication of your experience.

  2. Member ratings – we encourage members to provide ratings as this will help new users gauge reliability, ride experience etc.

What does miles2share do if it learns that a member is unsafe or acted inappropriately?

If miles2share learns a member may be unsafe or has acted inappropriately, we immediately suspend the member account and notify any other members in contact with this member of the account suspension. Your safety is our first priority.

What should I do if I find negative information after doing my own search?

Please contact our customer service if you uncover any suspicious or inappropriate information, so we can take the necessary actions. These may include suspending or terminating the user account and notifying other members in contact with this member of the account suspension or termination.
